Writing Quiz Questions for E-Learning

by Janet Clarey on October 28, 2008

Tom Kuhlmann, who writes the Articulate blog, provides some great tips for writing quiz questions. One thing that I thought of when reading Tom’s tips was the issue of WHEN you should write questions. If there is a need to assess, do you write your questions before, during, or after the creation of the content? (JC)

I typically create questions while generating the course content. The questions should help me assess whether the learning objectives have been met. They help me remain focused on what is important, so I don’t add unnecessary content or leave out something important. Because of this, I can also see value in creating these questions prior to generating the course content. Even so, my habit has been to create them concurrently.

Thanks for your comment David. I’m a bit wishy washy on this as I also see the value of creating question prior while at the same time recognizing that creating them during creation allows you to freely make changes during the development. Quite often there are several iterations along the development process. I’ll be interested to read more commments. Perhaps I should research this ; )
