Mapping the Learnscape

by Gary Woodill on August 25, 2008

Jay Cross is a well-known blogger and consultant whose focus is enterprise learning - a concept close to “workplace learning.” He contends that “corporations need to replace traditional training, knowledge management, and in-house communications with something more informal, interactive, collaborative, self-service, impromptu, and flexible. Instead of pushing content, they need to be facilitating conversation.” Jay’s new book (or “un-book”) is called Learnscape Architecture, and contains lots of diagrams and sage advice. But while these gleanings from Jay’s recent posts are interesting, it was his chart of Learnscape Architecture Widgets that actually caught my eye.

In this chart Jay lists many new learning technologies, with a description and a comment on the business value of each of them. The toolset for corporate training has greatly expanded in the past few years, and Jay is out their helping people to keep up. (GW)
