The Truth About Motivation

by Richard Nantel on January 12, 2010

driveI started reading Daniel Pink’s new book last night. Thirty pages in, “Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us,” suggests that the carrot-on-a-stick-bonus/raise/promotion strategy used by almost all companies can actually be detrimental to motivation.

Jumping ahead to page 203, Mr. Pink provides a Twitter summary of his book:

Carrots & sticks are so last century. Drive says for 21st century work, we need to upgrade to autonomy, mastery & purpose.

Hey everyone, Dan Pink says no more bonuses! ;-) (RN)
