2010 looks like it will be a big year for Google’s Android mobile operating system. Several dozen Android phones will be launched this year (including an Android phone by Google), and the platform’s own application store has just surpassed the 20,000 apps mark. Robin Wauters of MobileCrunch predicts 50,000 Android apps available by the end of the first half of 2010. In comparison, the iPhone store has just over 100,000 apps, but is growing slower than the Android store. Windows Mobile, Symbian and the Palm OS are all losing market share.  Given that mobile learning apps are built for specific platforms, this is good information to watch. (GW)
