The dreaded helpful 360 degree review. It can be worse than a visit to the mall with some friends coupled with a 180 degree view in the mirror four weeks before bathing suit season. You kind of want to know how you’re doing through other people’s eyes. (Does this make me look fat?) Yes/no are just OK but not really helpful. Having a real conversation following the feedback is where you’re likely to prompt changes.
“Feedback says, “Here’s what I think based on my expectations of you in these specific areas. The real payoff can come from discovering where you need to clarify or re-visit what’s really expected and honestly discussing what’s really possible. And, when people of goodwill have those kinds of discussions, it can lead to a quick boost in trust as well as new energy to move ahead.”

Janet,
Was just giving a speech/mini-workshop on this yesterday. Lots of ways of gathering really good data are now out there; the struggle, and the payoff, lie in the conversation.

Janet, I couldn’t agree more. 360 degree feedback is a catalyst. It’s what happens afterwards that makes the difference.
