3D Virtual World for business, education, collaboration, and learning

by Janet Clarey on November 30, 2009

ReactionGrid is a 3D Virtual World for business, education, collaboration and learning. David Miller (a.k.a. subQuark), a long time evangelist for Second Life, writes about the cost, capabilities, and team behind ReactionGrid and concludes it is not only less expensive but “I can do far more than I can in Second Life.”  There are a couple of case studies on ReactionGrid’s site if you’re interested in learning more. Thank you Janet for the mention. Virtual Worlds make for economical eLearning tools, not only as a way to carry out education, but as an application as well.

Many of us eLearning providers do not have the time, or budget, to learn and create “real” 3D characters and environments. Some people are lucky enough to have 3D Studio experts on their team, but that is a small number of us.

I am part of a 9 person eLearning department at a company that creates sales and catering software used by 85% of the worlds larger hotels in 110 countries. Our budget is very tight in both money and time for the training material we produce.

With the offering Reaction Grid has, the option of using a virtual world for a 3D animation studio is closer to reality. For what it costs me to have a small virtual studio in Second Life, I can have two sims in Reaction Grid.

There are challenges, however. The amount of already created content is much less for creating your characters and sets. But this is where I get excited! I am creating that content for people interested in pursuing virtual worlds as a tool and also creating more video tutorials specific to Reaction Grid.

Thanks Janet! =)
