Stephen Wildstrom of BusinessWeek sees the potential of augmented reality but says it’s not quite there yet.
Augmented reality is basically your smartphone’s camera + GPS + compass figuring out what’s in front of you.
Wildstrom’s point is that, today, the technology doesn’t improve much over a map, GPS, or your own eyeballs.
But behind the gimmickry, you see the possibility of mobile devices giving you real-time information on your immediate surroundings.
Of course, wayfinding is a tough test of augmented reality.
For simpler uses, like pointing your smartphone at a restaurant and getting instant reviews, augmented reality is here. (TW)

The major challenge that is faced by Augmented Reality Companies and project is the investment part. Once this will be done, pretty sure we will see plenty of useful AR Apps.
