Augmented Reality Apps Gaining Adoption

Mobile phone apps such as Wikitude, Layar, Yelp’s Monocle, and Scope, are providing owners of GPS- and compass-enabled smart phones with the ability to overlay information on their camera’s display screen. Need to know where the nearest H1N1 vaccination clinic is located? Want to know who received government contracts? Look to your smart phone.

Augmented reality-enabled smart phones could serve many uses in learning and performance support. Maintenance procedures, for instance, could be superimposed over displays  of equipment. (RN)
