Next Generation Conferences

by Gary Woodill on November 4, 2009

Conferences need to be reinvented. The idea of spending 3 days listening to people present their papers and their PowerPoint slides one after the other is excruiating. Most of the slides and papers are on a CD and/or a book, given to all the conference participants. In the conference I went to last week, all participants received a book and a CD containing exactly the same materials.

A recent post by Jeff Hurt suggests a better way, and the comments which follow his thoughts are equally useful to anyone thinking of organizing a conference in the next year. (GW)
