Chance of Finding Work After Unemployment Rises With Education

by Richard Nantel on November 2, 2009

A new study by the University of British Columbia’s Craig Riddell and York University’s Xueda Song indicates that the chance of finding a job after a period of unemployment rises significantly for every year of education. Each year of schooling past high school increases the person’s chance of finding a job by two to three percentage points.

Consequently, enrolling in a part-time continuation education program while employed may be a good way to ensure that any interruption in employment is short. (RN)
