The eLearning Network, a U.K.-based group of 1500, has a 13-page paper “21st Century Learning Management” available on their website. The paper is a result of a Sept. 25 event (which included a cross-section of eLN members, private and public sector users, LMS and content vendors, and consultants) designed to identify what was required in an LMS for the 21st century. Core functionality is a given but otherwise it’s a list of “desired features, functions, and possible uses cases.” Personalisation, localisation, access, integration, classroom management, learner interaction, search & recommendation, collaboration, competency-based features, reporting, records, ROI, and assessment…it’s all there. And, all that is already here. I guess it’s a bit of a wake up call for vendors. (JC)
