Geek out on Sun Microsystems’ smart white paper on cloud computing.
Some quotes:
Boiled down to a phrase, it’s using information technology as a service over the network.
From one perspective, cloud computing is nothing new because it uses approaches, concepts, and best practices that have already been established.
From another perspective, everything is new because cloud computing changes how we invent, develop, deploy, scale, update, maintain, and pay for applications and the infrastructure on which they run.
In practice, cloud service providers tend to offer services that can be grouped into three categories: software as a service [SaaS], platform as a service [PaaS], and infrastructure as a service [IaaS].
As trainers we should watch cloud computing to see if it changes the economics of systems (like LMSs) or makes new types of applications (like new virtual worlds) possible. (TW)

Thanks for pointing this one out, Tom. I’m working on a cloud-learning platform at this very moment.
Sure, Jay. Most pieces about cloud computing are so hype-y that it’s hard to find the what-is-it-really. I think this article does a good job of being candid about what-it-is, with some meaty content (not just diagrams of fluffy clouds!).
