I reviewed the potential of QR codes in a recent series of research reports on mobile learning. These are optical patterns that can be encoded with information and read later using software on a cell phone. I first heard about QR codes in the context of learning in a presentation by a group of Japanese researchers describing their use in outdoor education. If you want to try out this technology, go to the DevLearn08 conference in November in San Jose, and get your own QR code. There is no better way of evaluating a new learning technology than trying it out. (GW)
