Here’s a good overview of the differences between an LMS and LCMS including some resource links. Comments from Don McIntosh, at the bottom of the post, add an important point: with an LCMS, “organizational culture and the trainers in particular much support the idea of sharing materials.” You’ve really got to understand the differences and take a good hard look at your needs before tacking on the LCMS just because it’s there. Apart from what is listed, one other reason you might need an LCMS is to support how content is handled as part of a talent management system (linking learning assets to identified skills gaps). (JC)
