Yesterday, I pointed to Dion Hinchcliffe’s critical review of the use of SharePoint in education. Later in the day I received an e-mail from Dan Glass of AppointLink giving me a link to a YouTube video showing how an instructor can manage a course using AppointLink’s implementation of Sharepoint.
ThenĀ I came across Nancy White’s lengthy review of Sharepoint, which she says is a “silo builder” not a “silo buster”. This contention is shared by Tom Vander Wall, who calls Sharepoint a “gateway drug to enterprise social tools”, and says that “we went from 5 silos in our organization to hundreds in a month after deploying SharePoint”. The comments after Nancy’s post support her point of view.
Clearly the debate about Sharepoint’s advantages and disadvantages is in full swing. Why not add your experiences and comments below? (GW)
