The Impact of Social Software within the Enterprise

by Gary Woodill on March 11, 2009

Corporations are struggling with the use of social software. Is it worth the effort? What about loss of control? Luis Suarez reviews these arguments and comes to the conclusion that “without social software becoming available within the corporate environment we wouldn’t been been very much involved any longer with such key and important disciplines as knowledge sharing, nor collaboration. Innovation would not have been taken into new heights and, in short, we wouldn’t have been as productive and knowledgeable as we are now.”

He then points to a video by Senior Vice President Jon Iwata on how IBM uses social media as an internal communications tool, and what it is like to lose control in order to bring out the best in the company’s knowledge workers. (GW)

Hi Gary! Thanks a lot for the link love and for putting together such an insightful blog post commenting on the consequences of not tapping into the Social Software phenomenon within the enterprise itself. I think you have condensed quite nicely what I tried to convey in the original entry and how we may be at the point of no return for Enterprise 2.0 in expanding further its wings within the business world as where the next wave of interactions would be coming from to help boost that knowledge sharing and collaboration strategies that businesses may have put together already. Exciting times ahead, indeed! Let’s see where they take us …
Thanks again for the lovely post!
