Learning from Business Failures

by Gary Woodill on March 3, 2009

Christine Martell has been blogging recently about business failure, and what can be done about it. Clay Shirky, interviewed by

  • Where to find the next layer of value when many professions are being disrupted by the Internet
  • The necessary role of low cost experimentation in finding new business models
  • Information overload as a business opportunity.

He says that we are operating under the “lump of labor fallacy”, that we think that once the work available is completed, there is no more. But, new work is being created all the time. A thought provoking interview. (GW)

I also liked the ideas of lowering cost of experimentation in relationship to highest value. The application of fail fast forward by using digital to lower the cost of failure and encourage more experimentation was also inspiring and helpful.
