Primer on Communities of Practice

by Gary Woodill on September 22, 2008

Nancy White has been writing a series of blogs on communities of practice – There are now three parts. Part 1 deals with the answers to basic questions such as What are Communities of Practice? and, How are CoPs useful in learning? In Part 2 Nancy separate out the concepts of Community, Domain and Practice, and in this post spends time explaining the concept of Domain. Domains are the common core values that we care about. Part 3 discusses the Community aspect of communities of practice. Nancy’s commentary is tied back to Jean Lave and Etienne Wenger’s original concepts of communities of practice. These three blog postsĀ are good starting points if you areĀ investigating CoPs. (GW)
