Alternatives to the ISD process? No easy answer.

by Janet Clarey on September 19, 2008

Michael Hanley writes about the need to reinvent e-learning from a system-based approach to an situational approach in a constructivist-based learning environment. His view includes the belief that the frequently used ADDIE model of ISD emerged from the principles of project management which lead to ‘training outcomes’ that are equivalent to project deliverables. This is an ongoing  conversation in the field with no silver bullet alternative model. He’s got a nice reference list for additional reading.(JC)

Hi Janet,
Thanks for highlighting my article on re-inventing e-learning.
In my view, we are seeing a “new e-learning” emerging. I would suggest that indicators from your research on topics such as Mobile Learning, E-Learning 2.0, Using Second Life®, and Building and Fostering Virtual Learning Communities right through to the experiences of learning and development professionals “at the coalface” bear out the fact that we are transitioning to a new phase in the development of learning using digital & networked technologies.
I would suggest that as the experts and leaders in this domain, we should be at the forefront of harnessing these developments for learners.
Best,
Michael
P.S. I’d appreciate it if you’d consider my blog for inclusion in your blogroll.
