The Future of Learning on Mobile Phones

by Gary Woodill on November 24, 2008

Japanese designer Mac Funamizu has thought hard about how mobile devices will work with the addition of augmented reality. Recently he has been showing designs for a transparent mobile phone. He also has an eight part series of presentations on the experience of interacting with the world with a mobile device that knows who you are, where you are located, and has details on all the buildings and objects around you. This is NOT e-learning on a small screen, the instructor led literal minded attempts to send pictures and text to people about what they need to learn, but a seamless interaction with the world around the user, supplemented by the rich information about everything imaginable that will be stored in the information “cloud” that is everywhere. Learning material is there when you need it, integrated with the world that you are living in. This is my view of how mobile learning will be implemented in the near future.
