The World’s A-twitter about Twitter

by Gary Woodill on November 17, 2008

The idea of telling people what you are doing every few hours, seems like a form of exhibitionism/voyeurism and a huge waste of time to those of us who are in the Boomer/Zoomer generation. So why do it? Well, because it is a phenomenon that requires you to do it to get it. Not surprisingly, learning and development people are also writing about Twitter in their blogs, with both puzzlemenet and positive suggestions of what to do with it.

First, like mobile phones, Twitter can be seen as a new technology that promotes social cohesion. By following each other around, friends and acquaintances can get a sense of where you are and what you are doing. Will Thalheimer came back from the DevLearn conference in San Jose determined to give Twitter a try. In a second post Will suggests changing the question from “What are you doing?” to “What are you thinking?”. In another post, Nancy White points to humorous video by James Clay called “Are you on Twitter?”, with the warning that “if you are not already there, you’ve missed it!” Enjoy… (GW)
