Gina, good point that SL is event- and destination-driven, and that people shouldn't be put off by finding spaces empty.

I think once all the attendees have learned SL navigation skills, Second Life is an interesting place for meetings.

I think Second Life (and virtual worlds in general) may be used more frequently for meetings once people are able to use their desktop applications easily inside them.

Qwaq/Croquet allows this now. Sun's Wonderland also allows it (although it's still evolving).

Regards, Tom

I am surprised more businesses (expecially those with remote employees or multinationals) are not taking advantage of this great tool. We use it for meetings and love the fact that we don't have to get on another airplane or sit through another boring con-call! SL provides an engaging environment for corporate learning, sales team meetings, virtual coaching, and so much more. I think most people log on and walk around an empty "islan" only to get creeped out and never return. It is event and destination driven. Log on with someone else and attend a meeting or conference--it makes all the difference!
